What microneedling is, and what it can address
Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses a device fitted with fine, sterile needles — at this clinic the Dermapen — to create controlled micro-channels in the skin surface. This triggers the skin's natural healing response, stimulating collagen and elastin production over the weeks that follow.
It is commonly used to improve the appearance of acne scars, post-inflammatory pigmentation, uneven skin texture, enlarged pores and mild skin laxity. Results develop gradually and vary by individual; a course of sessions is typically planned based on your skin concerns.

Dermapen microneedling
Standard microneedling with the Dermapen device. Fine needles create micro-channels at a depth and density tailored to your skin, stimulating collagen remodelling. Suited to acne scars, texture irregularities, enlarged pores and early laxity.
RF microneedling (radiofrequency microneedling)
Radiofrequency energy is delivered through the microneedle tips directly into the dermis, combining the collagen-stimulation of standard microneedling with the tissue-tightening effect of RF heat. Often considered for skin laxity, deeper acne scarring and overall rejuvenation.
Microneedling with PRP
A small blood draw is used to prepare platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which is then applied during or after the microneedling session. The micro-channels created by the Dermapen allow the PRP to be absorbed more readily into the skin. This combination is often selected for acne scars and dull, fatigued skin.
What to expect after a microneedling session
Redness and mild sensitivity are normal in the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment, similar to mild sunburn. Most people return to everyday activities within one to two days. RF microneedling may involve slightly more downtime than standard microneedling; this is discussed when planning your sessions.
Collagen remodelling takes time: visible changes in skin texture and scarring typically develop over several weeks following each session. A course of treatments — usually three to six sessions — is generally planned for acne-scar concerns, spaced according to your skin's recovery.

RF microneedling is generally considered for deeper concerns such as significant acne scarring, skin laxity or overall texture, and may carry slightly more redness and downtime. What does combining microneedling with PRP add?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is prepared from a small sample of your own blood and applied to the skin during or after the microneedling session. What is the downtime, and how many sessions are needed?
After a standard Dermapen session, redness and sensitivity usually settle within 24 to 48 hours and most people return to normal activities the next day.
