Breast reduction in Dubai

Breast reduction surgery (reduction mammaplasty) removes excess breast tissue and skin to create a smaller, lighter breast that is proportionate to your frame. For many women it also addresses chronic back, neck and shoulder pain caused by disproportionately heavy breasts. Surgery is performed by Dr Amna Belhoul, Consultant & Head of Plastic Surgery, in a surgeon-led clinic in Mirdif Hills.

What breast reduction surgery involves, and who it helps

Reduction mammaplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess glandular tissue, fat and skin from the breasts. The remaining tissue is reshaped and the nipple repositioned to create a breast that is smaller, firmer and more proportionate. A breast lift is typically part of the same operation, so no separate procedure is needed for that.

Beyond appearance, many women seek breast reduction for medical reasons: disproportionately large breasts can cause persistent pain in the back, neck and shoulders, skin irritation beneath the breast fold, nerve symptoms, and difficulty with physical activity. These symptoms are assessed as part of your consultation and factor into the surgical plan.

It is a surgical procedure with recovery involved. Your suitability, the extent of reduction, technique and risks are assessed individually before any decision is made.

Why have your breast reduction at ABC

  • Dr Amna Belhoul, FRCS (Glasgow), Consultant & Head of Plastic Surgery at Dubai Health, with 28 years of surgical experience
  • Published clinical research on breast reduction outcomes using the inferior pedicle flap technique, bringing a research-informed approach to surgical planning and execution
  • Board-certified in aesthetic medicine, with a reconstructive background that informs precise, scar-conscious technique

  • Surgery and LPG lymphatic-drainage recovery under one roof at Mirdif Hills — no coordination between separate providers

Our approach to breast reduction

The technique is chosen based on breast size, tissue characteristics and the degree of reduction planned. All options are explained at your consultation.

Reduction with the inferior pedicle flap technique

The inferior pedicle flap is a well-established approach that maintains the blood supply and sensation to the nipple-areola complex while allowing significant reduction. Dr Amna has published research on outcomes with this technique, and it forms the basis of her surgical planning for most cases.

Reshaping and lift in the same operation

Breast reduction and mastopexy (lift) are combined in a single procedure. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a natural height and the remaining tissue is reshaped for a firmer, more proportionate result, avoiding the need for a separate lift surgery.

Scar-conscious planning

Incision placement is planned to minimise visible scarring. Common patterns include the vertical (lollipop) scar or the inverted-T (anchor) scar, depending on the volume removed. Dr Amna’s reconstructive background informs this planning, with aftercare guidance to support healing.

Recovery and what to expect

After surgery you will wear a supportive bra and rest for the first days. Swelling, bruising and tightness are normal and ease gradually over the following weeks. Most people take one to two weeks away from a desk job and avoid strenuous activity — including heavy lifting — for around six weeks, on your surgeon’s guidance.

Because surgery and recovery are under one roof, LPG lymphatic-drainage sessions can be scheduled to help manage swelling and support tissue healing as you recover.

  • Supportive bra in the early weeks
  • Swelling and bruising settle gradually
  • LPG lymphatic drainage on your surgeon’s instruction
  • Scars placed to minimise visibility; they fade over time

Breast reduction — frequently asked questions

Who is a candidate for breast reduction?

Breast reduction may be considered for women whose breast size causes physical symptoms — such as back, neck or shoulder pain, skin irritation, nerve discomfort or difficulty with daily activity — as well as those who seek a reduction in size for personal reasons. Good general health, a stable weight, and realistic expectations are important. Candidates are assessed individually at consultation; results vary between individuals.

Will breast reduction relieve my back and neck pain?

Many women report significant relief from back, neck and shoulder symptoms after breast reduction, and this is one of the most common reasons women seek the procedure. However, outcomes vary depending on the individual, and surgery does not guarantee the elimination of all musculoskeletal symptoms. Your symptoms will be discussed at consultation to assess how much they may relate to breast size.

Will there be scars after breast reduction?

Yes. Breast reduction leaves scars around the areola and along the lower breast, with the pattern depending on the amount of tissue removed. Scars fade considerably over twelve to eighteen months but do not disappear entirely. Dr Amna’s reconstructive background informs scar placement and aftercare, and guidance on wound care is provided throughout recovery.

Will I be able to breastfeed after the surgery?

Breast reduction can affect the ability to breastfeed, as milk ducts may be disrupted during surgery. Many women do breastfeed successfully after reduction, but this cannot be guaranteed. If future breastfeeding is a priority, this is an important discussion to have at consultation so it can inform the surgical approach and your decision.

How long is the recovery after breast reduction surgery?

Most people take one to two weeks away from a desk job and avoid strenuous activity for approximately six weeks. Swelling settles gradually over the following weeks to months, and the final shape becomes clearer as tissue settles. Your surgeon provides a personalised recovery timeline and aftercare plan.

How much does breast reduction cost in Dubai?
