What breast augmentation is, and who it is for

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that uses either silicone or saline implants, or the patient's own fat (fat transfer), to increase breast volume or improve breast symmetry and shape. It is among the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures, and the appropriate technique depends on individual anatomy, existing tissue, and personal goals.

Women consider this procedure for a range of reasons: asymmetry, changes following pregnancy and breastfeeding, or a wish to achieve a fuller silhouette. A thorough consultation is essential to assess your anatomy, discuss your goals honestly, and review all relevant options and risks before any decision is made.

Techniques we offer

The right technique depends on your anatomy, the degree of change you are considering, and your personal preferences. All options are discussed in detail at your consultation.

Implant-based augmentation

Silicone or saline implants are placed either behind the breast tissue or behind the chest muscle. Implant type, profile, and placement are chosen to suit your frame and goals. This is the most established surgical route for breast augmentation, and the appropriate implant is selected at your individual assessment.

Fat transfer augmentation

Fat is harvested from another area of the body — typically the abdomen, flanks or thighs — and transferred to the breast after purification. This approach avoids implants and uses your own tissue; however, it is suited to modest volume increases and requires sufficient donor fat. Not every candidate is appropriate; suitability is assessed at consultation.

Choosing size and shape at consultation

Size and shape are not chosen from a catalogue — they are worked out together during your consultation, taking into account your chest measurements, existing breast tissue, skin quality, and what you hope to achieve. Dr Amna provides guidance to help you form realistic expectations before any decision is made.

Recovery and what to expect

You will wear a supportive surgical bra for several weeks. Swelling, tenderness and a feeling of tightness are normal in the early days and ease gradually. Most people take one to two weeks away from a desk job; upper-body exercise is generally avoided for around six weeks, in line with your surgeon's guidance.

Because recovery takes place in the same clinic that planned your surgery, LPG lymphatic drainage sessions can be coordinated to help manage swelling and support tissue healing during the early weeks of recovery.

Breast augmentation — frequently asked questions

What is the difference between implants and fat transfer for breast augmentation?

Implants — silicone or saline — can achieve a wider range of volume increases and are suited to most candidates. Fat transfer uses your own harvested fat, avoids a foreign implant, and produces a natural feel, but is suited to moderate volume increases only and requires enough donor fat. Each approach has its own benefits and limitations; Dr Amna discusses which is appropriate for your anatomy and goals at consultation.

How is the size chosen?

Size is not chosen from a generic list. During consultation, Dr Amna assesses your chest measurements, existing breast tissue, skin quality and laxity, and your personal goals, then works with you to identify an appropriate range. The aim is to reach a proportionate outcome that suits your frame, and to ensure your expectations are realistic before any decision is made.

How long is the recovery after breast augmentation?

Most people take one to two weeks away from desk-based work and avoid upper-body exercise for around six weeks. Swelling and tenderness ease gradually over several weeks. Individual recovery varies; your surgeon provides a personalised aftercare plan at discharge.

Does breast augmentation affect breastfeeding?

In many cases breastfeeding remains possible after augmentation, though this cannot be assured for every individual. The surgical approach — in particular the incision placement and whether the nipple-areola complex is involved — can influence this. If future breastfeeding is a priority for you, discuss it at consultation so the most appropriate technique can be considered.

Are breast implants safe, and how long do they last?

Modern breast implants used in regulated practice have an established safety record, and their risks and limitations are well documented. Implants are not lifetime devices; they may need to be assessed or replaced over time. Potential complications — including capsular contracture, implant rupture or position change — are discussed in full at your consultation. Dr Amna uses CE-marked implants that meet regulatory standards applicable in the UAE.

How much does breast augmentation cost in Dubai?

The cost of breast augmentation in Dubai depends on the technique chosen (implants or fat transfer), the implant type and profile if applicable, and your individual case. A clear, itemised quote is provided after your consultation with Dr Amna. Message us on WhatsApp to arrange your consultation.
