What laser hair removal is, and how it works

Laser hair removal uses focused light energy to target the pigment in hair follicles. The heat disrupts the follicle’s ability to produce new hair, resulting in a progressive and long-lasting reduction over a course of sessions. It is not a one-time procedure: hair grows in cycles, and multiple sessions are needed to reach follicles at the right stage.

At ABC we use the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus, a dual-wavelength laser platform that combines Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm) wavelengths to treat a broad range of hair types and skin tones. The device’s integrated Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) delivers a burst of cryogen to the skin immediately before each laser pulse, helping to protect the surface skin during treatment.

Results vary from person to person and depend on hair colour, skin tone, the area treated and how consistently sessions are attended. Most people experience a significant reduction; some may need maintenance sessions over time. Individual outcomes are discussed honestly at your consultation.

Treatment areas and approach

The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus allows us to treat virtually any area of the face or body. Parameters are set individually based on your skin type, hair colour and the area being treated.

Face, underarms and body areas

Common areas include the upper lip, chin, jawline, underarms, arms, legs, back, chest and abdomen. Sessions are quick for small areas and take longer for full-body treatments. The DCD cooling helps manage the sensation during each pulse.

Suitable for many skin types (Candela GentleMax Pro Plus)

The dual Alexandrite and Nd:YAG wavelengths cover a broad spectrum of skin tones, including darker skin types that require the longer Nd:YAG wavelength for safe treatment. Suitability for your specific skin type and hair colour is assessed at consultation.

Comfort cooling (Dynamic Cooling Device)

The integrated DCD sprays a fine mist of cryogen onto the skin a fraction of a second before each laser pulse. This pre-cools the upper skin surface and helps manage the heat sensation associated with laser treatment, without affecting the laser’s action on the follicle.

After your session — what to expect

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment with no downtime. Some redness or mild sensitivity around the treated follicles is normal and usually settles within a few hours to a day. You can return to your normal routine the same day.

Sun protection on treated areas is important between sessions, and you will be given clear aftercare guidance at the clinic. Shaving (not waxing or plucking) is the expected method of hair management between sessions, as the follicle must remain intact.

Laser hair removal — frequently asked questions

How many sessions are needed?

Most people require between 6 and 8 sessions, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart depending on the area and hair growth cycle. Finer or lighter hair, hormonal factors, or certain areas may require more. The number is assessed individually at consultation and reviewed as treatment progresses.

Does it hurt?

Most people describe a snapping or warm sensation with each pulse. The integrated Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) on the GentleMax Pro Plus pre-cools the skin surface immediately before each laser pulse, which helps manage the heat sensation during treatment. Tolerance varies by area and individual.

Is it suitable for all skin types and tones?

The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus is a dual-wavelength platform combining Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm), which allows treatment across a wide range of skin tones including darker skin types. However, laser hair removal is generally less effective on very light or white hair, which has minimal pigment. Your skin type, hair colour and suitability are assessed at consultation.

Which areas can be treated?

We treat most areas of the face and body including upper lip, chin, jawline, underarms, bikini line and full bikini, arms, legs, back, chest and abdomen. For sensitive and intimate areas, strict single-use hygiene protocols are followed and the all-female team ensures privacy throughout.

Is laser hair removal available for men?

Yes. We offer laser hair removal for men across body areas including back, chest, shoulders and other areas. The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus parameters are adjusted for coarser hair and the skin types more typical in men. A consultation will confirm suitability and the recommended approach.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal is considered a long-term hair reduction treatment, not a guaranteed permanent removal. A course of sessions produces significant, long-lasting reduction for most people. Some hair may regrow over time, particularly with hormonal changes, and maintenance sessions may be needed. Individual results vary and are discussed at consultation.

How much does laser hair removal cost in Dubai?

Pricing depends on the area or areas being treated, the number of sessions and your individual assessment. We provide clear pricing after your consultation.
